Meanwhile he withheld nearly $400 million in aid and a White House meeting the Ukrainian president desperately sought. “The Assistant attorney general stands right between the executive branch and the legislative branch. The Department of Justice is reluctant to provide information about many matters, and the Hill wants information. It obviously is dramatically more difficult when one house of Congress is controlled by the opposite party,” said Ronald Weich, who was assistant attorney general for legislative affairs under President Obama and is now dean of the University of Baltimore School of Law.

As The Gateway Pundit reported Bragg has raised nearly $1 Million since making good on his campaign promises to indict Trump. The case stems from tweets Musk posted in 2018 in which he claimed he had secured funding to take Tesla private. The tweets caused the company’s share price to jump and led to a temporary halt in trading. The justices did not comment in leaving in place lower-court rulings against Musk, who complained that the requirement amounts to “prior restraint” on his speech in violation of the First Amendment. “Yes, they took my bags,” the congressman lamented to the San Francisco Chronicle, adding that he didn’t want to dwell on his firsthand experience as a crime victim.

The panel has been involved with impeachment proceedings against three presidents. The House Judiciary Committee is chaired by the Speaker of the House or, in the Speaker's absence, the Majority Leader. The ranking minority member is the Minority Leader or, in the Minority Leader's absence, the Minority Whip.

This strikes a balance between the public’s right to know about court business and individual privacy rights of the people involved in these cases. The Committee on the Judiciary has been called the lawyer for the House of Representatives because of its jurisdiction over matters relating to the administration of justice in federal courts, administrative bodies, and law enforcement agencies. Its infrequent but important role in impeachment proceedings has also brought it much attention.

A court that keeps electronic case records must allow the public to see them at the courthouse. If it is feasible for a court to do so, the court also must allow the public remote access to some electronic case records. Since the Reagan administration, oversight investigations normally began with a broad document request by a congressional committee and then a lengthy negotiation over what the executive branch would provide.

Issuing subpoenas and holding agency heads in contempt were rare, though impasses occurred in nearly every administration. The Trump administration largely refused to negotiate over documents and witnesses, which resulted in more court battles than usual. It remains to be seen how much negotiation will be sought by Jordan’s committee. As a former federal prosecutor, Schiff has worked to improve public safety and end the scourge of gun violence, with an emphasis on smart, cost-effective solutions, as well as a leader pushing for criminal justice reform. Among his accomplishments, Adam obtained federal funding to create a Foothills Regional DNA Lab in Glendale to speed the processing of DNA evidence in Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena, and other foothill cities and take violent offenders off the street. Adam also introduced the Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act to ensure the gun industry is not shielded from liability when it acts negligently, and victims of gun violence get their day in court.

Adam serves as Vice Chair of the LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus and Vice Chair of the Armenian Caucus. He has also led efforts in Congress to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide and in 2019 the U.S. Congress passed Adam's related resolution with overwhelming bipartisan support, ending decades of shameful silence on the issue.

Kratom products have gone unregulated in California, unnerving both fans and critics

In addition to the novel and untested legal theory, Bragg's case relies heavily on the testimony of his star witness, Michael Cohen—a convicted perjurer with a demonstrable prejudice against President Trump. Cohen has been convicted of lying to Congress and DANY prosecutors were rightly concerned about his serious credibility problems. Attorneys and members of the public can view civil court case dockets online with Public Access Search. The burglary involving a prominent member of Congress recalled the July 2021 robbery and assault of former U.S.

John Linder, a Georgia Republican, which detailed the department’s long-standing policies and procedures, including when the Supreme Court has said the executive branch can withhold information from Congress. That letter has been used by administrations of both parties to explain the limitations on congressional oversight.

Adam is committed to upholding and strengthening our democracy and the rule of law. He led the House impeachment inquiry and served as the Lead Impeachment Manager during the first Senate impeachment trial of President Donald J. Trump. Adam has also long-championed NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and investments in new technology and space exploration, which has fueled his belief that American leadership in space exploration is a key economic driver in tech and emerging industries. Adam has fought hard to preserve and expand the robotic missions undertaken by JPL from missions to Mars to a future mission to Jupiter's moon of Europa. And closer to home, he has partnered with the California Institute of Technology to obtain over $100 million in federal funding for the West Coast Earthquake Early Warning system, which can provide Californians a warning prior to the arrival of a destructive earthquake.

And I want to see whether the Mueller report applies as the law is being presented to us. I think Mr. Mueller, decorated war veteran, a soldier, an FBI agent, a very honorable man, did a tremendous job on that report. And I think it should be part of the evidence that’s presented to us,” Correa said. Following a more than two-month impeachment investigation by the House Intelligence Committee, the Judiciary Committee now must determine why the evidence warrants impeachment.

Committee on the Judiciary (118th Congress)

The U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary, also called the House Judiciary Committee, is a standing committee of the United States House of Representatives. It is charged with overseeing the administration of justice within the federal courts, federal administrative agencies, and federal law enforcement entities. The Judiciary Committee is often involved in the impeachment process against federal officials.

The House Judiciary Committee released a report on Thursday on Soros-funded Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s “unprecedented” multi-year investigation into former President Donald J. Trump after Bragg campaigned as the best candidate to go after the president. The SEC’s initial enforcement action against Musk alleged that his tweets about going private violated antifraud provisions of securities laws. The agency began investigating whether Musk violated the settlement in 2021 when he did not get approval before asking followers on Twitter, now X, if he should sell 10% of his Tesla stock. The fundamental mission of any prosecutor's office is to uphold the rule of law. And one of the hallmarks of this mission is to ensure that justice is blind—applied fairly and equally. Bragg's politically motivated prosecution of President Trump threatens to destroy this notion of blind justice by using the criminal justice system to attack an individual he disagrees with politically, and, in turn, erodes the confidence of the American people. Some laws, rules of court, and court orders make some case records confidential. Correa, a former attorney, said he wants to look at where the Mueller report fits into the articles of impeachment and whether it should be included in some way.

Adam has advanced efforts to protect the freedom of the press by authorizing the Daniel Pearl Freedom of the Press Act, as well as legislation to prevent the proliferation of nuclear material. Adam is a longtime champion of the environment and clean energy, as well as investments in infrastructure and mass transit. As a State Senator, he wrote the legislation establishing the Gold Line Light Rail Authority, and in Congress has led efforts to extend the light rail and mass transit throughout Los Angeles County. As one of the bill’s original cosponsors, Adam has been a consistent champion of the Green New Deal, which would combat climate change, invest in clean energy, and create a green economy in California and across the country. Throughout his time in Congress, Adam has pushed to preserve and protect the Rim of the Valley Corridor by adding almost 200,000 acres to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area to protect natural resources and habitats around the Los Angeles basin for generations to come. Adam has also worked with the local community to protect constituents from increased noise from helicopters and airplanes and to secure funding to help restore the Los Angeles River.

Even when the public is not allowed to look at a court case record, there will still be certain people who are allowed to do so. For example, if you are a party in a case, you can look at the court case record even if the public cannot. In other court cases, there are certain records in the case file that are not available to the public. The public may be able to see part of the court case file but would not be able to see this record. The legislation would give individuals more control over the use of their identifying characteristics in digital replicas. It affirms that every person has a “property right in their own likeness and voice,” and do not expire upon a person’s death.

Adam has worked to harden our defenses against foreign interference in our elections and expose it to the American public. In 2023, he reintroduced the Protecting Our Democracy Act, landmark legislation to prevent the abuse of power by any president and to strengthen checks and balances. He has also fought to strengthen our democracy by championing expansion of voting rights for all Americans, and legislation to expand and protect the rights of all Americans, including women and LGBTQ individuals whose rights have been under assault. Adam has also been a leading advocate for equality and human rights at home and around the world.

Ms. Lofgren has the distinction as the only committee member present for all three of the modern impeachment proceedings. The rights can be transferred to the heirs or designees for a period of 10 years after the individual’s passing. Adam has been a leading voice against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and their foreign interference in our elections. He was part of the congressional delegation that traveled to Ukraine to meet with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy in the spring of 2022 and has strongly advocated for the U.S. provision of aid and economic support for Ukraine. In the 115th Congress, the chairman of the committee was Republican Bob Goodlatte of Virginia, and the ranking minority member was initially Democrat John Conyers of Michigan.

He has also been a leading proponent in Congress for the Justice Reinvestment Initiative, a program that helps states reduce spending on incarceration while reinvesting the savings in public safety and community investments. In his 12th term in the House of Representatives, Schiff serves as a senior member of the House Committee on the Judiciary, which oversees the administration of justice within our nation's federal courts, federal administrative agencies, and federal law enforcement. Schiff is on a leave of absence from the House Appropriations Committee, where he remains an ex officio member. Established in 1813, the House Judiciary Committee is the second oldest standing committee in Congress.

Today, the Committee is at the forefront of some of the most significant issues facing our nation, including protecting constitutional freedoms and civil liberties, oversight of the U.S. Departments of Justice and Homeland Security, legal and regulatory reform, innovation, competition and anti-trust laws, terrorism and crime, and immigration reform. The Committee has jurisdiction over all proposed amendments to the Constitution, and each of its subcommittees has roots in that document. The House Judiciary Committee usually sends the greatest number of substantive bills to the House Floor each year. As another example in a divorce proceeding, information about you and your marriage could be included in an electronic case record. But the public could not look at the electronic case record using remote access.

Keep in mind too that all or part of a court case record may be confidential by law or sealed by court order. If so, no member of the public may view the electronic case record, either at the courthouse or through remote access. For example, if you saw a news story about a criminal trial and wanted to look at the court’s electronic record about the case to find out more, you would need to visit the courthouse and see the electronic case record there. In some special situations, where there is an unusually high level of public interest in a criminal case, a judge may allow remote access to a criminal case electronic record. An electronic case record can only be viewed on an electronic device such as a computer, tablet, or cell phone. Not all court case records are available electronically and access to electronic court case records is controlled by law.

“Frankly, I think it makes the department better when Congress is effectively doing oversight of the department, and so my view is, I want to be as cooperative as we can with them. I want to find those areas where we can work with Congress, because I know that it makes the department better when we do that, [and] are transparent, but I also recognize that there’s some ways and times where we can’t do that,” Uriarte told The Times in an interview. As the former chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Adam is recognized as a leader on national security and foreign policy issues. He has been a longtime advocate of legislation to sunset out of date Authorizations to Use Military Force and to refocus America's counterterrorism mission.

Members of the public who wanted to see the electronic case record would have to visit the courthouse to do so. Certain people, such as a party or a party’s attorney can always use remote access, if available, to look at the full electronic court case record. How you can access an electronic court case record depends on your relationship to the case.

I think we understand it’s important to keep it simple for both the purposes of the Senate trial and also explaining what the president did to the American people,” Lieu said. “When you hear what ‘high crimes and misdemeanors’ actually means, then you understand why the president has, in my opinion, absolutely committed high crimes and misdemeanors,” she said. She dismissed the idea that Democrats are moving too quickly, a complaint held by some Republicans and their legal witness who testified Wednesday.

The Landlord’s Guide to Renting a Furnished House: Pros and Cons, Tips, and More

However, we hope this guide helped inform you of whether it’s a good fit for you and your property to furnish (and how much) or not. Let’s assume you’ve decided to furnish (whether fully or partially) one or more of your rental properties. You can deduct from that security deposit to pay for the damages, recouping your loss without it coming out of your pocket. Now that you’ve seen it can be worth it to rent fully furnished, you may be wondering about the other benefits (and drawbacks).

Is furnishing your rental property worth it?

Instead, do an inspection at least mid-way through a one-year lease, if not quarterly, to ensure your property and furnishings are being taken care of. This needs to be paid for upfront before you can begin charging the higher rental rate, so you’ll need the funds to invest in the furnishings in advance. Furniture and appliances aren’t cheap, and when you add up the cost to fully furnish a single property, it can easily reach into the thousands (or far more) depending on what you include. For more information on how depreciation in rental furnishings work and what you can claim depreciation on, see IRS publication 527. Let’s go over those now so that you’re fully informed of everything that renting a furnished house entails, so you have all the information you need to decide whether it’s right for you.

For example, in California, you’re allowed to collect a security deposit worth two months of rent for an unfurnished space. We touched on this earlier, so we don’t delve into it again, but you can charge considerably higher rates with a fully furnished property. While the rent rate for a fully furnished space is higher, the draw of a fully furnished rental is big, especially in a busy market with high demand.

Typically, landlords charge anywhere from 10-20% more per month for a fully furnished rental on a long-term (generally annual) lease. When a property gets the CHBO Complete quality seal, we guarantee that it has all of the features that any corporate renter would expect in a high quality furnished corporate housing property. Ultimately, it’s up to you to weigh the pros and cons of furnishing your rental property or not. About A Place To Stay Terlingua, TX

willow house terlingua

We mixed design elements from high desert areas with warm modernism and a hint of inspiration from Georgia O'Keeffe's unforgettable southwestern style. In all design decisions, we chose to use colors and textures that naturally existed on the land. For rock walls and pathways throughout the property, we used rocks that we sourced and collected from various areas of the property. For the shade structures, we used dead ocotillo branches we found around the property. In order to build structures that stand the test of time, we have used high-quality materials that are durable in a climate that can be dramatic.

‘Nearly everything here was either done by an artist who resides in West Texas or through a residency at Willow House’. ‘I took two separate trips out to Farmville,’ Werner says of the latter. ‘They have 17 massive warehouses full of goodies that any interior designer would go nuts over’. However, an open, warm community space featuring a kitchen, living area and outdoor fire pit at the heart of the property paves the way for visitors to mix a drink and make new friends. The real draw inside the main house is the sunken sitting area.

Lauren Werner has never been one to overthink things. The first-time hotelier opened Willow House in Terlingua, Texas about five years ago to much critical acclaim. From design to architecture to construction to overall vision, Werner is the sole mastermind behind the hotel. Inside the gas station is Big Bend Resort & Adventures Café which serves simple cafeteria style meals.

See what guests loved the most:

The café is open seven days a week, 7am - 9pm and serves generous portions of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The convenience store next door offers quick snack options, picnic supplies, ice, basic groceries, gasoline, and diesel fuel. This small yet iconic cemetery is located along the downhill slope of the old Terlingua Ghost Town. A formerly abandoned quicksilver mining camp-turned tourist destination, this site may be one of the most photographed cemeteries in Texas. Modest yet unique crosses line the the simple stonework and small grottoes in this historic burial spot.

It offers incomparable views, easy access, and a unique Big Bend experience. Throughout the construction process, Werner slept on a mattress in whatever room wasn’t being worked on, and she still stayed around after Willow House opened in June 2019. She shared her story with guests, observed how people used the space and made continuous plans to improve the hotel based on these observations. People were using the communal kitchen more often than expected? La Kiva, a local tradition in Terlingua, is carved out of massive sandstone boulders.

Willow House is designed to be multi-functional. The property can sleep 30 people comfortably and we are happy to work on special accommodations for groups larger than 30. The layout of Willow House makes this property perfect for large groups, individuals, and/or special events. Please contact us directly if you desire to rent the entire property.

It’s been nearly five years since Willow House opened, and Werner feels that the hotel is hitting its stride. After several big additions over the years — such as the yoga deck, manager’s house, and the pool – there are no further plans for construction from this point forward. What Werner lacked in experience, she made up for with confidence in her vision, a knack for creating compelling spaces, and pure determination. Guests have full access to all communal spaces described in the Main House description.

Inspired by the hospitality experience at friends’ West Texas ranches, she imagined individual casitas grouped around a main house. A central, communal experience, paired with the private seclusion of stand alone guest quarters. The alluring beauty of the Chisos Mountains is nearly indescribable—its rugged arcs giving way to miles of desert terrain.

Three beautiful courtyards separate this house from the others. The second has an outdoor shower, a handsome outdoor fireplace, kitchen sink and counter, and the cabin, all enclosed by a 5 foot rock wall for privacy. Inside, Werner payed homage to Terlingua’s natural beauty. Off the main house are the 12 casitas, which range from 250 square feet to 600 square feet.

The structures, completed in Spring 2019, are single story stand-alone casitas. The water source for the entire property is a water well powered by a solar pump. Two heavy duty reverse osmosis systems filter the well water. Drilling our own water source was a big moment for the project, as water is scarce in this dry, high-desert region. There’s a simple indoor kitchen with sink, fridge, oven/stove and a small table. The patio features a full outdoor kitchen with sink, cooking, and dining area.

Guests can enjoy the on-site cafe and restaurant. Other amenities include a barbecue grill, seasonal outdoor pool, and bathhouse. Laundry facilities are available.Evening entertainment is offered Friday and Saturdays in the on-site bar and restaurant. The area is popular for horse riding and cycling. The Saint George Hotel, the newest  and 'fanciest' of the Marfa hotel offerings, feels like it could be located in a number of cities across the country. Well designed & executed, but not particularly 'Marfa' in any way. For those who travel to this part of the world often, it is a great addition.

Location to Big Bend was really good, the rooms were very clean and the staff was very nice. The restaurant on site was very good and everything on property was close in proximity. Sophisticated offerings considering how remote Marfa is. They carry everything from essentials (olive oil, eggs, butter)  to unlikely Marfa finds (wide selection of Kombucha, specialty hummus).

The retreat is situated on a 250-acre ranch and is comprised of 12 private concrete casitas. Decked out in desert hues and vintage furnishings, each one exudes rugged sophistication. Some include private patios and outdoor showers but they all feature sweeping vistas of the local peaks. At the center of the property is the main house. Equipped with a chef's kitchen, guests are encouraged to whip up some grub and mingle around the campfire for alfresco dining under the stars. The Guest House is the most private of the home rentals and features 3 beautiful courtyards.

There’s a separate private bathroom in the flower garden with sink, flush toilet, and a bathtub. The Willow House concept was born after a trip to Big Bend National Park that sparked a love for Far West Texas and the freedom that comes with exploring this remote part of the world. We set out to offer our guests a unique place to stay, unlike anything else in the area.

Inside the Chic New Desert Hotel We’re Obsessed With - Camille Styles

With a seasoned team handling construction and architecture, I’m excited to see how Lauren Werner’s intuitive eye for a good hospitality concept and design will continue to shine. Reflecting and showcasing the surrounding desert landscape was a core tenant of the project from the beginning, a quality that Werner felt was lacking in the available accomodations in the area. Born and raised in Southern California, Lauren Werner’s introduction to Texas began during her time studying at Southern Methodist University. She graduated with a pre-law degree and began working in commercial real estate in Dallas, but was quickly convinced that she wanted to start a project of her own.

Amenities of Terlingua Ranch Lodge

With her first hotel well-established, Werner is working towards a second hotel, Oxido, a nature retreat located on 30 acres of mountainside property in Sedona, Arizona. Like Willow House, Oxido will include standalone guest rooms gathered around the main house, with a focus on unobstructed desert views and good design. The project has not yet broken ground, but the team has been coordinating permits, raising money, and wrapping up design for the past one and a half years. The 'Main House' serves as the central gathering area for Willow House guests- a communal oasis for all to enjoy.

Additionally, the Marfa Lights Festival takes place on Labor Day weekend each year with food and craft vendors open around the historic Presidio County Courthouse. Comprised of 12 casitas, the property sits over 250 acres of land with uninterrupted views of Chisos Mountain Range and Santa Elena Canyon. What once was a roofless theater now offers delicious Texas eats & live music. Grab a beer on the porch and hang like a local. Enjoy a separate private bathroom in the flower garden with sink, flush toilet, and a bathtub.

Courtyards

The first features a hammock, yoga rug, and stunning views. The second has an outdoor shower, a handsome outdoor fireplace, and kitchen sink and counter, all enclosed by 5 foot rock wall for privacy. The third courtyard has an arbor surrounded by flowers, where one can relax on a full-size bed and enjoy the desert vistas. The Guest House’s one-room structure houses a queen-sized bed, full kitchen, and a breakfast nook.

I am always pleasantly surprised to find all ingredients to make an impressive charcuterie board at The Get Go. The Saint George restaurant has good food, cocktails, and most importantly... Coffee and cocktails are served all day until 3pm. “There was nowhere that I had seen around Big Bend that focused on the Chisos as the primary view, which is the whole reason people go out to Big Bend,” Werner said. At age 25, Werner first visited the Big Bend area on a solo road trip to West Texas. She was struck by the beauty of the land and instantly fell in love with the area.

This casita is equipped with a rain shower, closet, air-conditioning, and heat. Willow House No. 4 offers guests one king bed, a luxe bathroom, and large enclosed outdoor patio with built-in daybed that serves as a secluded living space. Willow House No. 3 offers guests two queen beds, a luxe bathroom, and large enclosed outdoor patio with built-in daybed that serves as a secluded living space. Willow House is a twelve casita desert retreat on over 250 acres of private land. With unobstructed views of the Chisos Mountain Range, it is the perfect location to relax and unwind in Far West Texas.

The décor is true Marfa Minimalism- concrete floors, colorful Mexican textile accents, mid-century modern furniture. Clean, walking distance to most all locations, typically reasonably priced unless its an exceptionally busy Marfa weekend, and cool courtyard vibes. Once a year, the Chinati Foundation facilitates a weekend with open studios, gallery exhibitions, speakers, mercantile events, and performances throughout Marfa. The Chinati Foundation offers free admission to its permanent collection, exhibitions, talks and music, and welcomes all to experience the contemporary art on display. Home to The Big Bend Sentinel and Presidio International, The Sentinel is a coffee shop, restaurant, bar and event venue supporting local, independent journalism in Marfa, Texas. The real draw inside the main house is the sunken sitting area, where the design puts nothing between the dining table and the desert scenery framed by oversized windows.

You can order at the counter, call in for pick-up, or enjoy pizza by the slice. I grab a bottle of red wine, sit at the folding tables, and decompress. The Big Bend is named for the vast curve of the Rio Grande in remote southwest Texas. It is a wildly beautiful natural region, with a complex and fascinating history. On a road trip with a friend to Santa Fe in 2017, she heard word about a piece of land, just under 300 acres, with spectacular, unobstructed views of the Chisos Mountains. She redirected their trip to Terlingua, saw the land, and made an offer on the spot for the piece of desert that would go on to be the home of Willow House.

Marfa is the town most commonly synonymous with design in Far West Texas, but Willow House is putting another destination on the map. Located in Terlingua, just miles from Big Bend National Park, the desert retreat is comprised of 12 casitas that sit over 250 acres of land. Werner says that though the structures are modern in design, they are ‘completely in tune’ with the beauty of the Big Bend. Their minimal nature doesn’t distract from the setting, she explains. There is not a spot on the property where Werner’s love for the desert can’t be felt. ‘I want it to respect the location and the colors of the natural landscape,’ she muses.

A place to stay and unwind while taking in unobstructed views of the Chisos Mountain Range. Our communal style of hospitality allows you to cook, mix a cocktail, and meet new people in the Main House while also enjoying your own private accommodations. Willow House No. 11 is a small casita complete with a King bed, private bathroom with rain shower, AC/heat and small private patio. Never felt rushed or like I couldn't keep trying something out. At the end I left with nothing but knew I really wanted the American Vintage II strat and bought it next day. But if I had to pick just one, I would say “No Excuses” by Alice in Chains; it’s one of the first I ever learned how to play.

Our local music shop in Charlotte offers a variety of services to help musicians achieve their goals when it comes to making music. Learn how to play an instrument with expert lessons, available for all ages and skill levels. Our instructors teach guitar, bass, piano, drums and more.

The best guitar shop in Charlotte, and I never go anywhere else when I'm in the market for strings, an amp, a pedal, or a new guitar. Awesome selection, very friendly staff. I had to drive a couple hours to get there and was definitely worth the trip. I went in to look for possibly a new Stratocaster style guitar and Jake was extremely friendly and helpful. Answered all questions I had about pickups and guitar finishes and payment options.

From pros on tour to local acts at smaller venues, Charlotte is just an incredible place to see music of every genre. One of the best guitar and amp stores anywhere. Lots of high-end gear (also lots for the budget minded). I remember to this day my first time getting up in front of everyone with just me and my guitar. There’s nothing sadder than a broken or out-of-tune guitar.

Movie Reviews

It tells the story of two siblings who go to live with friends of their parents as the oldest of the siblings starts to get suspicious of the family friends' patriarch. A young girl comes of age in a dysfunctional family of nonconformist nomads with a mother who's an eccentric artist and an alcoholic father who would stir the children's imagination with hop... Nonetheless there are still many features that contribute to the beauty of the house.

Terry's request is denied and he is shown a copy of the letter from the private school, faxed to the trustee by Ruby, and raising suspicions about Terry's intentions with the money. Later, Ruby is confronted by the vice-principal because an essay, which Terry wrote seemingly to win her favor, was plagiarized, leaving her future at the school uncertain. When Ruby and Rhett's parents are killed in a car accident, their carefree teenage lives are suddenly shattered. Moving to an incredible house in Malibu with the Glasses', old friends of the family, seems to be the beginning of a new life for them. The film opens with one of those irrelevant shock buttons that have become annoying in recent years--five or 10 minutes that have nothing to do with the rest of the story, but fool us with misleading footage. In this case, there's a horror scene, and then we see it's a film, and then we see the heroine and her friends watching it--and, yes, they're cute as they giggle at their own reactions, but openings like this are empty stylistic exercises.

The Glass House (1972 film)

Hello, everyone, my name is Jacob – and I’m 28 years old 6 feet 2 inches tall with brown hair and blue eyes. I was born and raised in Coos Bay, OR, a little town with a few thousand people on the Oregon coast where I have spent my entire life up until 4 months ago when I moved to Hollywood, CA to pursue my dreams. I am extremely athletic and confidant I work out and run every day, I take great care of my body. I grew up playing every sport you can think of along with racing motorcycles and going hunting and fishing with my dad and friends all my life.

Given the Glasses' long-term plans, why not make the kids as happy as possible? The first kind of thriller is a film, the second is a technical exercise. Increasingly suspicious, Ruby investigates her parents' deaths after reading an article stating David had been driving a BMW at the time of the accident, knowing he owned a Saab. She discovers a damaged car similar to her father's at Terry's shop and learns the BMW her parents were driving was registered to Terry's business. After the loan sharks push him to pay off his debt, Terry tries to get money from the trust fund through the account trustee.

Director

That night, Terry angrily berates Ruby for her behavior and states that he plans to send her to a strict and far away boarding school. Once Terry and Erin are asleep, Ruby steals Terry's car keys and attempts to escape with Rhett in Terry's Jaguar. Stopped by the police because of a mudslide ahead, they demand to see Ruby's license. Terry and Erin catch up to them, talking the police into letting the children go. On the drive back to the house, Ruby accuses Terry of killing her parents by sabotaging the car, which Terry denies.

Ruby soon finds out that Terry is deeply in debt to loan sharks, and Erin has a severe drug habit which she is subsidizing via prescription fraud and stealing drugs from her employer. Ruby gradually comes to believe that the Glasses are after the siblings' trust fund, totaling $4 million. Citing short notice, the children have to share a room and are transferred from private to public school mid-year. The Glasses buy Rhett both a Nintendo 64 and a PlayStation, and he is allowed to play them at all hours. Ruby is uncomfortable with Terry's sexual hints and reckless driving when they are alone. Ruby later finds unlabeled pharmaceuticals and sees Erin injecting herself, though Erin claims it is for diabetes.

I’m very sympathetic for my competitors because I am a fine oiled machine that can’t be stopped by anyone or anything. So America, sit back and relax while Prime Time 99 entertains you to your full potential. Trust me you don’t want to miss what I’m about to do in “The Glass House,” baby. The movie was directed by the TV veteran Daniel Sackheim, who worked on "ER," "The X-Files," "Law & Order," and other series that are smarter than this. It stars Leelee Sobieski, one of the best young actresses, as Ruby Baker, who with her little brother, Rhett (Trevor Morgan), is orphaned when their parents die in a car crash. Why would the Glasses, who have acres of living space on their Malibu hilltop, put the kids into one room?

Here you will find an overview of the cast of the movie The Glass House from the year 2001, including all the actors, actresses and the director. When you click on the name of an actor, actress or director from the movie The Glass House-cast you can watch more movies and/or series by him or her. A suddenly orphaned teen girl (Leelee Sobieski) & her little brother start a new life in Malibu with their guardians (Stellan Skarsgård & Diane Lane), who might not be the caring friends of their parents they seem to be. Moments later, the children leave the house on foot and are picked up by a friendly police officer. Coming across the accident scene where the Jaguar went off the road, the cop gets out of the car to investigate, discovering the loan shark's body. Severely injured, Terry climbs to the road and staggers towards Ruby and Rhett, hiding a gun.

Ruby tries to get the children's estate and trust fund lawyer Alvin Begleiter to accept her concerns, but he is skeptical of her claims, as she was going through a rebellious phase prior to her parents' deaths, ultimately being suspended from school for plagiarism. Ruby pushes Begleiter to get social services involved, but visiting social worker Nancy Ryan is taken in by the couple's assurances. The floor is also made of red brick laid out in a herringbone pattern and is raised ten inches off of ground level.

The only other divisions in the house besides the bathroom are discreetly done with low cabinets and bookshelves, making the house a single open room. This provides ventilation from all four sides flowing through the house as well as ample lighting. If you want to see a great movie about a couple of kids endangered by a sinister guardian, rent "The Night of the Hunter." Watching "The Glass House" has all the elements for a better film, but doesn't trust the audience to keep up with them. Having criticized the Strick screenplay, I should in fairness observe that the way it usually works is, the writer puts in the smart stuff and then it comes out in the story conferences with executives who figure if they don't understand it, nobody will. Storyline

Shortly after, Terry locks the children in the basement and sabotages his Jaguar, expecting them to reattempt escape in the car, then drinks himself into a stupor. The children manage to get out of the basement and while they attempt to escape the house, Begleiter arrives to speak to Terry. It is revealed that Begleiter had been informing Terry about Ruby's reports to him. Begleiter has grown suspicious after a call from the bank saying the guardianship is under investigation.

Sinclair, an inmate pressured by Slocum to run drugs through the pharmacy whose position was taken by Paige, gives Paige a book of records of corrupt transactions between Slocum and the guards to be published. Sinclair is shanked on the yard but his book cannot be found in his cell, so Slocum and his gang chase Paige through the prison. The riot alarm sounds and most of the prisoners flee back to their cells, but Slocum remains, so Paige shoots him with a homemade weapon provided to him by Lennox and escapes through the empty guard booth. Courtland finds the book on Paige's body and refuses to hand it over when a corrupt guard demands it. Courtland notifies the warden of his findings and submits the book for evidence, but the warden denies knowledge of the book and asks him to sign the "official version" that the event was a race riot, excluding any information about corruption in the prison. Speaking of turning up, Sobieski's character turns up at too many right times.

Because of the film's critical and financial failure, the studio had little interest in keeping unused footage and the missing 74 minutes of footage have since been considered lost. After being gang raped for refusing Slocum's advances, Allan kills himself by jumping from a high tier. Taut direction and strong performances recommend this first-rate suspense yarn. When their parents are killed, two orphans (Trevor Morgan, Leelee Sobieski) move in with a wealthy and seemingly benevolent couple (Stellan Skarsgard, Diane Lane). But soon the adoptive parents begin to behave in a sinister manner, making the kids' lives a nightmare.

Suddenly, the loan sharks appear at the house, stab Begleiter when Terry claims that he's responsible for Terry's debt, repossess Terry's Jaguar and Ferrari, and tie up Terry, insisting he take a ride with them. Overhearing Terry begging them to take the Volvo instead of the Jaguar, Ruby stabs the Volvo's tires, forcing them to drive away in the Jaguar with Terry in it. As a result of Terry's tampering, the loan shark loses control of the Jaguar, accidentally ramming the Ferrari into oncoming traffic, then goes over a ledge and crashes, seemingly killing the loan shark and Terry. In the trash, Ruby discovers a postcard from her estranged uncle Jack in Chicago that she was never shown with his contact details, and a letter from a private school in Malibu, indicating the Glasses unregistered the children and pocketed the $30,000+ tuition.

I’m very passionate about helping others, the biggest high I can ever get in life is when I see the look on someone’s face after you know you did something nice for them to make there day that’s what I want to do every day of my life when I make it big. To actually have enough to make a difference be it animals or little kids there’s too many starving and struggling to just want it all to myself. It kills me to see someone in a worse situation than me and the best I can do is pocket change. I want to be able to change someone’s life as much as this could change mine.

How fortunate that she drops in on Mr. Glass's office just at the right moment to eavesdrop, unobserved, on crucial dialogue. And how unfortunate that she seems to be proving the Glasses right and herself wrong when a social worker walks in on a crucial moment and, of course, misinterprets it. Diane Lane and Stellan Skarsgard, as the Glasses, are so good in the dialed-down "realistic scenes" that we cringe when they have to go over the top and make everything so very absolutely clear for the slow learners in the audience. Sobieski is fine, too--as good an upscale Los Angeles high school student as Kirsten Dunst in the recent "Crazy/Beautiful," but in a genre exercise that strands her instead of going someplace interesting and taking her along.

Once was a time when the well-made film used its opening scenes to dig in, not just spin its wheels. I had never been to New York City before moving here 9 years ago with my friends. My job as a paraeducator for people with disabilities in California ended due to budget cuts, and since I didn’t have the resources to finish college, I thought a creative adventure would be worthwhile.

After the war, many soldiers brought Provencal style back to the United States and built their own French country-esque homes. There isn't a single concentration of French country homes in the United States, as soldiers built wherever they decided to settle following the war. French provincial homes originated in France in the 1600s, during the reign of King Louis XIV, when French aristocrats began to build manor and chateaux homes in the countryside for their summer getaways.

Diving deeper into the interior details, the most prominent hues are red, white, and blue that define a Classic French style. French Provincial style is grand, so it's no surprise that these homes typically have at least two stories. Many homes have windows that extend beyond the eave of the roof line to give the structure an even taller, more grand appearance.

Defining elements and characteristics of French country decor

Although French Colonial homes were once small, symmetrical structures that typically measured one room deep by two rooms wide, the average size changed over time, too. To reduce construction, however, new rooms were often attached to existing rooms, and were not separated by a hallway. A powder room can be a quirky little space, but it offers a golden opportunity to decorate in style without costing a fortune. Its diminutive size accounts for this curious advantage and sometimes all it takes is a wonderful textured or tonal wallpaper, a pretty vanity and accent pieces that are worthy of the enterprise. Not all homes have both a living room and a family room, but if yours does, you may struggle to decorate them distinctly, and in fact, to separate their uses.

She recommends having “at least patterned pillows,” though in a full French country home, you’d likely see patterned sofas or side chairs too. For wall decor, the designers recommend embellishments such as vintage clocks or landscape oil paintings. “If you want something really authentic, French dishes and monogram linens are beautiful touches,” Joyce adds. While there are notable similarities between farmhouse style and French country decor, there are also many distinguishable differences.

Perhaps the most obvious connection is their shared emphasis on rustic, homespun features. Both have old-world roots, but while a French country home is—obviously—inspired by the French countryside, farmhouse style is often inspired by American farms. If you’re drawn to rustic farmhouse-style interior design rather than a modern, minimal feel, a French-style home could be an ideal backdrop for your aesthetic.

Reflecting upon European-style architecture, the French Country Houses come with a package of cozy, expansive mansions that are distinctive in look and carry the charm of elegance and timelessness. Like French Colonial architecture, French Provincial homes are extremely symmetrical. You'll typically see the front entryway is centered exactly on the front of the house and the same number of tall, rectangular windows on each side of the structure.

In fact, French country style's distressed woods, neutral color palettes, and farmhouse inspiration align with today's popular modern farmhouse decorating trends. French country homes feature luxurious yet effortless stylings, natural stone facades, and chic rustic interiors. Otherwise known as Provencal homes, they have inspired homebuilders and decorators for centuries. And they continue to inspire the farmhouse and shabby chic interior decorating trends that are popular today. First of all, French country house plans have an authentic old-world vibe that you won't see in most other types of architecture. They also put a big focus on using natural materials and complementing the landscape.

The reds could vary from tomato to raspberry, blues from aqua to midnight blue and whites could vary from off-whites to various depending on their undertones. Ranging in size from compact, humble cottages to enormous chateaus, these homes have continued to inspire the delicate Shabby Chic and whimsical Modern Farmhouse style. French Country Architecture and décor are still inspired by builders and designers worldwide with their extravagant exteriors and delicate, fragile interiors. Drawing from the French Countryside, these houses exhibit a more relaxed, luxurious, and rustic outlook.

While the original homes were situated in the countryside, many French-provincial style homes popped up in the American suburbs that developed between the two world wars. Now, French-style homes—which are considered revivals of French homes built in the 17th century—can be seen throughout the country, often with modern upgrades. Farmhouse style is more inclined towards a warm and rustic charm meanwhile, French Country style makes use of contrasting hues, silver and gold accents and decorative motifs added to a rustic style. Natural wood flooring laid in a parquet or herringbone pattern is a classic example. French Country Style exhibits a rich-looking space with defined patterns and elements to take inspiration from.

If your home lacks distinctive architecture, consider small upgrades to boost character, such as adding crown molding in the living room or installing wainscoting in the dining room. For a rustic French look, redo floors in an entryway or kitchen with terra cotta tiles or herringbone brick. The style, which is sometimes referred to as Cajun cottage, Creole architecture, plantation architecture, or raised houses, has become an iconic building style of the American southeast. Although French Colonial style has evolved and adapted over the last several centuries, today's French Colonial homes have held onto many of the traditional elements and features. From small cottages to estate-worthy chateaux, French country house designs have both asymmetrical and symmetrical exteriors.

While the term "provincial" may imply "unsophisticated," these homes typically embody an understated, rustic feel. It's said that the first French provincial homes were modeled after the Versaille Palace (although, of course, they're much smaller and more less ornate). Susan Spath is an architect and interior designer and principal at Kern & Company in San Diego, CA. The goal of capturing maximum light guided the design of this French country home inside and out. On the front of the house, tall, shuttered windows with 20 and 24 panes recall French doors. A majestic pecan tree and leafy pergola filter the light and soften high-summer harshness.

French Eclectic homes are well-represented in Los Angeles' architectural landscape. Home shoppers will find a wide range of French styles like Beaux Arts, Chateauesque, French Normandy, and Second Empire style homes with mansard roofs. Some French Provincial homes may feature half-timbering, but for the most part, these stately homes are finished with brick or stone facades. The facade is usually flat, but some have rounded towers near the entryway or other sections of the house. After World War I, American soldiers brought French Provincial style to the United States.

Classic French-style homes are usually constructed of durable materials such as stone, brick, or stucco, and they often include steep rooftops and large, arched windows with shutters. These homes, says Spath, often feature courtyard entries and exterior gardens. For example, a French-style home may include a large iron gate that opens up to a courtyard garden with stone pavers that lead to an oversized arched entry made entirely of stone. These homes are also often surrounded by distinctive greenery, such as rose bushes, hydrangea, lavender, or even topiaries and creeping ivy. Modern French country home design applies the traditional elements of European architecture in fresh ways. This elegant multi-level house, for example, features the stone and stucco facade, sloped roof, and ornate details that are classic of the style.

Crisp white walls and neutral furnishings typically dominate, with small hits of color mixed in for interest. Look to muted colors with gray undertones, such as sage green, steely blue, or dusty rose, to add depth to a neutral palette while maintaining a sophisticated subdued effect. Layer in small doses of black through hardware or light fixtures to ground the look. To finish off our tour of this imaginary modern French-inspired home, I thought you’d enjoy this lovely image of an understated, but compelling, back entry. It accentuates the unparalleled beauty of pure white and underscores how little is needed to make a defining statement.
